Dr Ahmed Kalebi, the founder and retired CEO of Pathologists Lancet Kenya, has been listed among the world’s 75 influential pathologists.
This professional, who was born and brought up in Kibra, was listed in The Power List 2021 ‘Showstoppers’ category by The Pathologist magazine that publishes an annual list of influential personalities, including opinion shapers in collaboration with American Society of Clinical Pathology.
Besides making Lancet the first private laboratory to conduct Covid-19 tests in East Africa when the pandemic struck last year, Dr Kalebi was lauded for using his social media platforms to provide regular Covid-19 updates and thus “becoming a trusted go-to figure for not only the public, but also local and international media.” Kalebi, currently an independent consultant pathologist, is the only African on the list in which he is appearing for the third time since 2018 when he appeared as a Social Media Guru in pathology, and 2019 when he was named a Trailblazer.
Dr Kalebi has pushed for Covid tests to be done between 24 and 48 hours and The Pathologist magazine says in Kenya “Ahmed has also informed the National Parliament to ensure laboratory professionals receive recognition for the critical role they played in the pandemic.” He retired this April after serving for 12 years.
