In efforts aimed at reigniting the once vibrant music scene along Kenya's coast, promoter Elijah Girimani has revealed plans to turn the highly popular Bongo Music Old School Concert into a monthly festival, following the success of the Bongo Old School Concert Season 3.0 which saw electrifying performances by Tanzanian legend Dully Sykes and Kenyan maestro Nameless.
The Bongo Music Old School Concert, which has garnered a loyal following over the years, initially started as a one-off event bringing together lovers of classic Tanzanian hits from the '90s and early 2000 topped up with live performances from the said artistes.
"These nostalgic anthems, which dominated radio waves and dance floors across East Africa, still hold a special place in the hearts of music fans today. From legends like Mr Nice and Ray C to hits from Ali Kiba and Diamond Platnumz, the music captures a golden era of the region's pop culture and having Dully Sykes was the best restart we could hope for," Elijah told TNX.
Promoter Elijah, who has spearheaded the event, is excited to announce that the concert will now be held monthly, starting next month. According to Elijah, the move is aimed at rekindling the unique blend of nostalgia and modern energy that the Kenyan coast has become famous for.
"The coastal region has always had a special connection with Bongo music," Elijah explained. "By turning this into a monthly festival, we're not just celebrating the classics, but we're also creating a platform for new talent and new experiences."
The monthly festival will not only cater to locals but also attract tourists looking to experience the best of East African music and heritage. This month's event held at Moonshine Beach Club, lit up the city's nightlife scene in spectacular fashion, marking the end of a rather quiet Ramadhan period devoid of major events, enlisted the expertise of veteran DJ Frankee Walker.
The show, organized by Coast Vibes in collaboration with DJ Lenium, DJ Masha, and Sir Ric, attracted a full house, confirming the city's readiness for the comeback of beach parties.
