ODM's Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, is never one to shy away from speaking his mind. Whether he's sparking fiery debates on the floor of the National Assembly or engaging with his constituents, the Embakasi East lawmaker's words always make waves. Recently, his passion for education led him to offer some blunt yet well-meaning advice to high school students.
Babu, whose commitment to education is evident through his virtual practical mathematics lessons for Form Four students, took the opportunity to address a group of students visiting Parliament. His message was clear: focus on your studies, not relationships.
"In high school, there's no room for boyfriends," he said, emphasizing that young love can be a distraction. "That person is not going to marry you in high school. Don't waste time," he added, sending the students into thoughtful silence.
The controversial MP, known for his unfiltered sentiments, continued by offering more colorful advice. "If you must kiss someone, kiss a book. If you must hug someone, hug your bed," he said with a smile. "That's what will help you in your education. I look at you and see beautiful, intelligent young people-add brains to that beauty, and watch how the world opens up to you. Beauty with brains," he encouraged.
The students, clearly impressed by his candid words, snapped photos with the MP as he wrapped up his motivational talk. Babu Owino's unapologetic call for students to prioritize their future over fleeting relationships served as both a reality check and a dose of tough love.
Last year, former Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang reported that there was increases of incidences of girls doing exams from the hospital after giving birth.
