American popstar Madonna was on Saturday rushed to intensive care after developing a serious bacterial infection and it has emerged that she was strenuously rehearsing for her upcoming Celebration Tour.
An insider told Page Six that she had been putting in 12-hour days before she was found unresponsive.
Her long-time manager Guy Oseary said her health is improving although she is still under medical care.
He further stated that they expect her to recover fully but all her tours will be halted at this time.
"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows," he said.
In January this year, the Material Girl singer announced her Celebration tour in honour of the 40th anniversary of her music career.
The 35-city global trek was set to kick off on July 15 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver with several stops along the way.
It would then make its way to Europe on October 14, 2023, before wrapping up on December 1.
Madonna, 64, has been posting pictures and videos from tour rehearsals and was in a good mood just days before her hospitalization.
A relative told MailOnline that since her hospitalization the family was worried and that is why they kept it a secret.
"For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst.
"That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday. Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation."
Madonna is the best-selling female artist in history, with around 335 million records sold.
