Mariah Carey suffered a festive fail on New Year's Eve when she attempted to ring in 2021 with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne and forgot the words. The 50-year-old superstar took to her social media accounts to share a clip of her belting out the famed tune a cappella.

But it seems Mariah was slightly out of practice as she suffered a memory blank mid-performance. "Should auld acquaintance be forgot /And never brought to mind? /Should auld acquaintance be forgot," Mariah sang before saying, "I don’t know how it goes. And days of auld lang syne?" She questioned before admitting: "Never could pronounce it properly."

She then told fans: "I love you. Happy New Year! Let’s hope for better, better days, in 2021 and beyond." The singer has previously been left red-faced during festive performances in the past, including a notable blunder on New Year's Eve in 2017. She suffered an epic Times Square lip-sync meltdown in front of millions after botching her headline performance at America's biggest New Year's party. Mariah lost the plot after her attempts to lip-sync completely fell apart, crying: "I'm trying to be a good sport here."

It's believed the wrong song was played and Carey couldn't hear what she should have been singing on stage. With a face of thunder, she stropped around the stage saying: "'We didn't have a check for this song... we're missing some of the vocals, but it is what it is. I'm just going to let the audience sing. We didn't have a soundcheck for this New Year's baby, it is what it is. Get these monitors on please."

In another awkward moment, the singer suffered some tuning issues while performing at the Rockefeller Centre in New York City in 2014. She sounded surprisingly off-key when singing her hit All I Want For Christmas at the annual tree-lighting ceremony.

Mariah looked very uncomfortable as her voiced cracked and she struggled to hold the tune. She later apologised to fans for her lacklustre performance, tweeting: "Last night’s situation was beyond my control. I apologise to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you."
