In a moving statement, the grieving star said he carried the memory of swimming with her and their young son just a day before she went missing. Sharing a photo of Naya with Josey, Ryan wrote: “This is so unfair...there's not enough words to express the hole left in everyone's hearts. “I can't believe this is life now. I don't know if I'll ever believe it. You were just here.” He added: “We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn't fair. I don't know what to say.”
He went on two write about the happy memories he had of his ex-wife - and the comfort he is taking in the knowledge that she will “live on” through their young son. Naya went missing on 8 July after hiring a boat for herself and her son on Lake Piru near Sanat Clarita in California. The alarm was raised when Josey was found alone in the boat later that day and told police he had seen his mother disappear under the water. Following a desperate search by police, family and friends, the actress’ body was found on 13 July with a coroner later ruling she had died by drawing in an accident.
