Harris County inmates were left in tears during a performance by Use this Gospel rapper Kanye West.
Accompanied by his large choir Kanye West shared tracks from his latest gospel album dubbed Jesus is King during the visit where 200 selected prisoners and staff at the facility were present.
“This is a mission, not a show,” Kanye told the inmates according to Harris County Sheriff, Ed Gonzalez.

They, later on, moved to another prison facility where a smaller section of female inmates were treated to a show by the ensemble.
Kanye West’s surprise prison detour comes two days before his service at Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston where he will be interviewed by Osteen about overcoming adversity and his faith journey.

The surprise move was a replica of what happened back in 1968 when Johnny Cash, a country singer, held a concert in Folsom State Prison.
Cash later released all the new song he had performed at Folsom Prison in a widely acclaimed album titled At Folsom Prison.
Jesus is King album has garnered mixed reactions from many critics, but, Kanye West himself has been received well with a majority of gospel stars such Lecrae, Bishop Marvin Sapp, Andy Mineo and other personalities.
