The rescuers pulled the tiny youngster to safety today.

This is the emotional moment a five-year-old boy was pulled free from the Indonesia tsunami rubble after he was trapped in a buried car for 12 hours.

Ali somehow survived the horrific plight after rescuers heard his cries from beneath the debris.

Police removed wood and other rubble from the car which had become trapped under fallen trees.

And the footage captures the incredible moment the youngster is freed, crying as he clings to the officer who saved him.

It is not clear whether anyone else in the car with Ali made it out of the wreckage alive.

More than 200 people were killed and hundreds more injured after the tsunami hit the islands of Java and Sumatra on Saturday night.

It has since led to an earthquake, believed to be 5.0 on the magnitude scale and at a depth of 105.8km.

Wrecked cars lie on top of the ruins of a house destroyed by the tsunami.

Terrifying footage showed beachgoers fleeing waves on the sand and residents heading to higher ground as homes were flattened.

Villagers said there was no warning a tsunami was going to hit.

Officials said it was triggered by undersea landslides after the Krakatoa volcano erupted in yet another natural disaster for Indonesia, which has seen a string of tragedies leaving thousands dead in 2018.

Footage posted on social media by the head of the disaster agency showed cars floating in flood water as the waves hit.

Hundreds of homes and other buildings were wiped out or "heavily damaged".

Rescue team members search for victims among debris in South Lampung.
