It has been a memorable week for rapper King Kaka.
He's currently in New York for the first time ever and became the first Kenyan artist to step into Hot 97 FM --one of the biggest radio station in US for an interview.
During the show, he announced a collabo with American comedian Tracy Morgan surprising his fans just as much.
Remember, all this happened during a week he spent most of his time hobnobbing around Bill, Melinda Gates and other selected top talents thinking how they can better the world during the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s annual Goalkeeper’s event.
On Monday King Kaka officially announced that he'll be releasing his firth album "Titled Eastlando Royalty" in a month. Posting the announcement on Instagram is not really how he had envisioned breaking the news though.
He had a sleeker idea that would have definitely impressed Kenyans.
"Initially we had an idea of 5 guys jumping from the roof of KICC with parachutes and each holding colour bombs but the fact that I am in New York , Time-square, it’s Iconic so I told my team the plan has changed," said King Kaka.
New York City is the home of hip hop culture. It’s where actually hip hop, which is now 45 years old, started.
Rappers like Jay Z, The Notorious BIG, Tupac Nas and many other prominent names in the business that King Kaka looks up to came from New York. So it's understandable why he calls the announcement iconic.
His move to make the announcement there, however, stemmed from more than just his musical heroes.
"I was really inspired by G- Eazy when he did his YouTube story and he used to hawk mixtapes at that very spot [Time Square]," he said.
"Years later his last album was on that very spot but being advertised, I actually have the same story, I used to hawk my mixtapes in Matatus and the streets and now I’m a king. It makes me believe that nothing is impossible, I mean I have."
He then went on to explain his album which will join a list of other classics under his name.
"This album is not only an album but a compilation of hidden treasures and messages that I know will inspire the ghetto youth and the public in general. Eastlando has moulded me into this King after all the hardships."
