Nice Wanjeri AKA Shiro

It was pomp and glamour on Saturday night at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria during the 6th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Nice Wanjeri, popularly known as Shiro of Auntie Boss, won the Best Actress in a comedy and TV series.

In her acceptance speech, the delighted actress revealed that it was her first nomination.

“Oh my God! Fast of all God ni mso and I want to thank everyone who voted. This is my first time to board a plane and I came to Nigeria and from being nominated for the first time to winning an award is beyond my wildest dreams,”

Nice also took to social media to share the great news, flaunting her award.

“#AMVCA2018 Hii ndio wanaitaga kucheza Kando? Mama!! I made it!! Watch me from heaven and see my dream as we watched those naija movies, afro cinema continues shortly...” she posted.

However, speaking to a local news site, the popular actress disclosed that she will no longer be in the show anymore.

“I don’t know what to do, I won but people will no longer see me in the show after my contract was not renewed,” Wanjeri said.

The ‘18 Hours’ film also scooped the Best Overall film award.

The film becomes the first from East Africa to walk away with the award, which also saw its editor Mark Maina win the Best Picture editor award.  

Other awards won by Kenyans are Best Documentary ‘The Flesh Business’ by Dennis Wanjohi and Best indigenous film (Swahili) ‘Supa Modo’ by Sarika Hemi Lakhani.
