Grace Watiri

A woman was charged with manslaughter after an argument with her husband over allegations that he had impregnated another woman ended tragically.

Police said Grace Watiri killed her husband John Ngugi Wairimu on 18 January within Mowlem area.

Watiri pleaded guilty before the court but asked that she be set free since she did not plan to kill her husband.

Police said a fight broke out between the two after the deceased arrived home on the fateful day and found his wife packing her belongings claiming she wanted to leave.

The court heard that Ngugi demanded to know why his wife was determined to walk out of their marriage and it was then that she accused him of impregnating another woman. She then broke down and told him she was going to live her own life, away from his dramas.

The court heard that a furious Ngugi attempted to stop his wife from leaving, leading to a fight.

Police said the deceased got hold of the accused who struggled to free herself, picked a glass and hit her on the head repeatedly. She is said to have screamed for help, but no one responded. It was then that she reached for a kitchen knife and stabbed Ngugi on the pelvic area around his private parts.

The court heard that the accused ran to seek help on the road but it was too late to save her bleeding husband.

“I have a four-year-old child to take care of. I don’t know who will help me with his upbringing if I’m jailed,” she told the court. The case will be mentioned on a later date.
