Education officials said the pupil of Ndhiwa Primary School in Ndhiwa sub-county sat her first papers on Tuesday but failed to turn up yesterday.

She allegedly left home on Tuesday but never returned.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum said efforts by her parents to trace her proved futile.

“Preliminary information I have is that the girl is suspected to have eloped with a man. But we are investigating the matter to find out the truth of the allegations and her whereabouts,” said Mr Tum.

Ndhiwa Sub-County Director of Education Maurice Jayoro said they had registered two cases of absenteeism at the school.

Elsewhere, in Rongai, Nakuru County, there was drama as the exams began following a confrontation between an education official and a school head teacher.

The incident happened at around 8.30am, when the education official stormed the school as learners prepared to write the science paper.

She allegedly confronted the head teacher seeking to know why she had allowed journalists into the school. The headteacher had just concluded an interview with The Standard team.
