Gor Mahia, Alicia Bakers and Confectioners Ltd have unveiled a new partnership.

“This sponsorship will ensure that Gor Mahia retains talented players, attract the best players and in the process, create jobs for the youth in the country and region as a whole,” read a press statement released during the launch attended by among others, Gor Mahia club chairman Ambrose Rachier, Alicia Bakers Limited director Beatrice Ochieng and chairman of the Commission on Administrative Justice Otiende Amollo.

Aggrey Nyandong’ the managing director of Alicia Bakers and Confectioneries Ltd said: “This partnership will enable Gor Mahia achieve its full potential by ensuring that for every branded bread we sell, the club will get Sh1.50. This has the potential to deliver a monthly income of Sh1 million which adds to Sh12 million annually for the club to enable it meets it obligations.”

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia legend and assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will hold fort at the club for a little longer.

Zico, who had a distinguished career with the 15-time champions, was elevated to take charge of the team following the abrupt exit of Brazilian Jose ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira, who has since joined Albanian side KF Tirana.

Club deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala told The Nairobian that the club’s executive has not sat down to look at potential replacements.

“We’ve not settled on anyone. We haven’t even met as an office to look at a replacement,” Ngala said, adding that they were shocked by the premature exit of Ze Maria who had instilled discipline and professionalism in the playing unit.
