Pastor Pius Muiru's mother died of head injuries, postmortem examination reveals

The mother of televangelist Pius Muiru died of severe head injuries, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

Grace Wangari Mwangi, 73, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave, had injuries indicating she was hit with a blunt object.

A detective involved in the murder investigation revealed to The Standard yesterday that the report had concluded that the elderly woman died as a result of the head injuries.

Ms Wangari will be buried on Thursday at her home in Murang'a. The burial date was fixed after the post-mortem was conducted and a report handed over to police to facilitate investigations, her family said.

Kigumo District Criminal Investigation Officer Joshua Cheptoo said they had handed the body over to the family to proceed with burial arrangements.

"Examination on the body was conducted at the weekend and we are using the report obtained for our police investigations. The report has explained how (Wangari) met her death," said Cheptoo but declined to give more information.

George Wainaina, a relative, said burial plans had been finalised.

"As a family we have mourned our mother and are now set to bury her on Thursday," he said.

Two suspects, her daughter-in-law, Monica Muthoni, and a security guard, Ezekiel Saitambua, are in police custody helping with investigations on the brutal murder.

They were on Friday last week presented before Kigumo Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Wahito who directed they remain in police custody for 14 days as police finalise the investigation.
