The Education Ministry has announced an extension of the midterm period for the second term, which will now run from June 27 to July 1, 2023.

Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang conveyed the changes through a circular dated April 24, stating that the objective is to enable managers to review school operations and the running of the institutions.

Initially, the mid-term break was scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 2.

The request was fronted by the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) National Chairman Indimuli Kahi, in a letter dated March 26.

"The Ministry recognizes that the national Kessha conference is an important event that allows school managers to make a review and share experiences in running of schools," said Kipsang.

The second term was intended to span 14 weeks until August 11, with a mid-term break planned for June. Students will then enjoy a two-week break from August 12 to August 27.

In the academic year 2023, Kenya's school term dates will return to their regular schedule, with the KCPE and KCSE national exams being administered as usual in November 2023.

There will be a midterm break spanning three days, from September 23 to September 26.
