Drama at Bridge International School as police block re-opening

Police offices yesterday barred teachers, parents and learners from getting access to a private school that had been shut by the Government for being unregistered.

Parents and pupils spent the better part of the day in the scorching sun as they demanded that Bridge International School, Kibwezi branch, refund their first term fees.

“We are stranded here. We have already paid our children’s school fees and now the Government has closed the school,” a parent said. Kibwezi Assistant County Commissioner Vitalis Ogur told the parents to launch an official complaint through the police for their refund.

The Ministry of Education, through the Kibwezi sub-county Education director, Kennedy Machora, in a letter dated December 18, ordered the school closed for being unregistered.

“The school offers an international syllabus. As the ministry rolls out new curriculum of 2:6:6:3, they are not for that. After Class 8, pupils get absorbed to various secondary schools in the country, which is making their continuity with education a mess,” said Dr Machora.

The school has over 200 pupils, whom the ministry offered to place in other schools.
