NAIROBI: Sunshine High School has registered its best performance since the institution was established 21 years ago.

The private boys' school had a mean score of 10.82 points in the just-released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations results. At the same time, four of its candidates were among the top scorers in Nairobi County. The four who scored straight As of 84 points are Filipos Tandese,  Andrew Mwangangi, David Wangira and David Adeolo.

Tandese, who served as the deputy captain before he cleared his studies, attributed his success to self-discipline and the school's elaborate learning system.

"My dream of pursuing Pharmacy in university is now within reach," he said.

Principal fell ill

The school's principal, Mr Daniel Sugut, was thrilled with the results.

"Sunshine shines back again, it's our right moment to reclaim our position," said a jubilant Sugut.

The school, besides having 75 straight As, had 71 candidates with A-, 40 with B+, 16 with B (plain), nine with B-, three with C+ and one plain C.

While congratulating the boys for the exemplary performance, Sugut revealed that the exams were done under difficult circumstances given that former principal Kibet Kiptum was admitted in hospital where he died.

"The school soldiered on even after  the principal passed on in the middle of the exams and that's why we say glory be to God for the exemplary performance," said Sugut. He said 204 candidates will sit for this year's examinations.

"There is a strong sense of team work and discipline cultivated in the school. This all contributed to our success," he said.

Sunshine Secondary School is a six-streamed private secondary school with a population of over 900 students. It was established in 1995 by former President Daniel arap Moi. In 2014, the school registered a mean of 10.24 points.

In its first KCSE entry in 1998, the school placed sixth nationally. Sunshine Secondary School has not only excelled in the national examinations by being in the top 10 several times, it has also produced the best students in the county and county in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
