USA: A horrible viral picture apparently showing a Liberian Ebola victim who had 'risen from the dead' is a screenshot from the film World War Z.

The image is accompanied with the caption: "For the first time in human history, confirmed footage of a man who scientists watched die from Ebola then only several hours later, regain life and rise from the dead."

It then cites Bible passage Isaiah 26:19-20: “Your dead shall live, their bodies shall rise.”

But it appears the fake image has been taken from US zombie apocalypse flick World War Z before being digitally enhanced, as revealed by website Hoax Slayer.

The film was released in 2013 starring Brad Pitt as former UN investigator Gerry Lane who is trying to save the world from a zombie outbreak.

The vile image appeared on dubious news site 'Big American News' - which also posts stories about President Barack Obama infecting Christians with Ebola - and quickly sparked an internet storm.

A post accompanying the image falsely claims: "Officials in Liberia have released the first confirmed image of a captured Ebola victim who rose from the dead."

The hoax is believed to have been sparked after ABC News posted a video of a man thought to be dead who then started to move.

To date, 3,400 people have died during this year's outbreak - the majority in West Africa - and there have been nearly 7,200 reported cases in all.

Ebola spreads through contact with the bodily fluids of someone who has the virus and so the only way to contain an outbreak is to quarantine those who are infected.

Symptoms include bleeding, high fever, and damage to the central nervous system.
