Newcastle, England: After Gemma’s body was found at their Newcastle home Daniel Johnson acted like a dog on his police cell floor then threatened to cut throats, a court heard.
A “psychotic” man with obsessions about aliens and conspiracies killed his girlfriend because he believed she was possessed by the Devil, a court heard.
Before Daniel Johnson, 32, strangled and knifed Gemma Finnigan, 24, his sister said he had a look of “pure evil”.
After Gemma’s body was found at their Newcastle home he acted like a dog on his police cell floor then threatened to cut throats.
Johnson, held at Rampton secure hospital, has waived his right to attend the trial.
He admitted he carried out the killing but pleaded not guilty due to insanity.
Prosecutor Jamie Hill QC told Newcastle crown court three experts said he had paranoid schizophrenia and was psychotic, believing Gemma “possessed either by the Devil or an evil spirit”.
