A G4S security guard had to call for help after getting stuck in an ATM machine he was loading with cash.
Firefighters took an hour to free him using heavy-duty cutting equipment after his identity was verified.
The guard had found himself locked inside a security space behind the cash machine on Saturday.
The specialist search and rescue crew was called to the ATM at a petrol station in Brentwood, Essex.
A fire service spokesman said: "He was unharmed."
