Gunfire in Eastleigh as man opens fire to disperse agitated crowd [Eastleigh Voice/Facebook]

A video has surfaced online showing a man discharging a firearm during a street altercation in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

In the viral footage, the man is seen engaged in a heated confrontation with several people who taunt him, shouting in Swahili, "Toa! Toa bunduki!", loosely translated as "Draw your gun."

The video shows the man retreating to a black Toyota Land Cruiser, appearing to end a phone call before pulling out a pistol and firing multiple rounds while entering the vehicle.

Scenes following the shooting reveal shattered glass from a nearby mobile phone display and broken windows of a building identified by online users as Yare Towers.

The motive behind the confrontation remains unclear.

At the time of publishing, police were yet to issue an official statement, though unverified reports suggest the dispute may have stemmed from a disagreement with a security guard over obstruction at a mall entrance.

The incident comes less than a month after President William Ruto toured the Eastleigh area as part of his development itinerary in Nairobi County.

His visit drew online attention, with some Kenyans speculating that he wore a bulletproof vest under his shirt, allegations that remain unconfirmed.

As expected, the President was heavily guarded by the Presidential Escort Unit, GSU officers, and plainclothes security personnel.

Eastleigh has in the last one year been the focus of security concerns. In October last year, the neighborhood made headlines following the abduction and murder of three female relatives, Waris Dahabo Daud, 38, her 23-year-old niece Amina Abdirashid, and 12-year-old Nusayba Abdi Mohammed.

CCTV footage had captured the trio being picked up by a Nissan Note, which was later found abandoned.

The prime suspect, 24-year-old Hashim Dagane Muhumed, a former Ethiopian police officer who had crossed into Kenya, was arrested in the Kamukunji area after a tip-off from members of the public.
