A simple photo of former Makueni Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana sitting casually on a pavement with a soft drink, has sparked a wave of admiration online-and gospel singer Daddy Owen is among those giving the former leader his flowers.

Prof. Kibwana, now back in the classroom as a lecturer at Daystar University, has quietly embraced life beyond politics with a humility that's resonated deeply with many Kenyans. Despite serving two terms as governor, his low-key demeanor and return to teaching have earned him respect from unexpected corners.

Daddy Owen was especially moved by the image, using it to speak on what he sees as a shift in values among young people.

"Social media has convinced young people that wealth is only real if it's flaunted-big houses, flashy cars, and status symbols," he wrote. "The 'washwash' culture made humility look like poverty. But soon, authenticity and humility will become the most valuable currency."

His comments resonated with many, articulating the frustration of those who are exhausted by showy displays of wealth and seek true authenticity.

Former presidential candidate and fellow academic, Professor James Ole Kiyiapi, also chimed in with admiration.

"The Professor-epitome of servant leadership! Time for quiet reflection, Prof!" he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Prof. Kibwana responded with equal grace, praising Kiyiapi in return:

"You are a special leader. Your ethical, moral, and spiritual standing are unquestionable. Please be one of those to save Kenya."
