A man in Nairobi has been charged with causing grievous to an artiste at a recording studio in South B by pouring hot water on her.

Rex Gowa was presented before Makadara senior resident magistrate Praxdie Atieno Aduke to answer to the assault charges.

He is accused of scalding Mercy Shiru Wachira on March 20, at about 9pm at a studio in Sanasana area within Makadara Sub-county.

On that day, the accused and the complainant reportedly met at the studio at around 5pm.

The complainant, who is said to have previously differed with the accused, re-ignited the conflict and in the ensuing quarrel, splashed cold water onto the accused who in turn slapped her several times while insulting her.

Before the heated exchange, the complainant had boiled water in an electric jug with intention of making tea for both of them.

The accused allegedly followed the complainant into the kitchen, grabbed the jug of boiling water and poured it on her, causing serious injuries.

In the melee, the complainant fell down and the accused is said to have taken advantage of the vulnerable situation she was in and dragged her from kitchen into bedroom where he continued assaulting her, resulting in bleeding.

Gowa then went to the bathroom and he was locked in, giving the complainant a chance to seek help.

The complainant alerted her neighbours who in turn reported the situation to a nearby police station.

The complainant opened the door when the police arrived and the accused was promptly arrested.

Gowa was escorted to a police station while Shiru was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before she recorded statement about the incident with the police.

The accused has since denied the accusations and was released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 pending hearing on August, 9
