Delegates from the Mt Kenya region who wish to attend the Limuru lll socio-economic and political meeting Friday must get accreditation from the organising secretariat.
Delegates and leaders drawn from the vote-rich region are expected to attend the conference at Limuru Jumuiya Conference Centre.
Former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi told The Standard, on Thursday, that the meeting is meant to discuss matters affecting the region.
Muriithi, who is a member of the former ruling Jubilee Party, said the delegates will include the business community, professionals, clergy and political parties.
“We are accrediting delegates who include business associations, clergy, professionals and political parties,” he said.
“It is great that people are inviting themselves, but accreditation is required. Those who require accreditation should contact the conference and political parties’ secretariats,” he added.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa has dismissed the meeting, claiming that it is meant to entrench ethnicity in the country.
“Let us not allow ourselves to be taken back to the politics of ethnic mobilisation. If we want to mobilise our people, let us do that behind ideas that will bring our people together but not through ethnicity,” Ichung’wa said.
The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri claimed that the agenda of the Limuru lll meeting is to attack President William Ruto’s administration.
“We are solidly inside the Kenya Kwanza government and we will continue supporting it because it is performing well. I will not be attending the Limuru lll meeting,” he said.
Muriithi said the meeting is open for all Mt Kenya residents who will be accredited by the secretariat.
“We are the ones who will bring ourselves to the meeting. This is not a political meeting or rally where people are mobilised with money. People should not have any idea that they will be paid as no one will pay them. This meeting has no financiers we will all be equal in deliberations,” the former governor said.
The meeting has been organised by Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
“We are starting our revolutionary journey on Friday. They have continued overtaxing our people despite endorsing the Nadco report. The cost of living is still too high,” Kioni said at a recent media briefing.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently extended an olive branch to Karua and Kioni, inviting them to table their wishes for the Limuru lll meeting.
“As the regional leader, it is my responsibility to convene such meetings. If they indeed have an agenda, my office is open and they are welcome to reach out to me,” the DP said.
