Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has called out an unruly road behavior captured in a viral clip recorded on Nairobi’s Mombasa Road.

The clip shows two young men sitting on the rear side windows of a fast-moving, white Mercedes sedan.

In the video, two men who appear thrilled can be seen throwing their hands in the air at some point, having thrown all caution away without much thought about the imminent danger posed.

The incident has brought the car owner, James Gathogo Njeri, into CS Murkomen’s crosshairs.

“Mr. James Gathogo Njeri, this is how your car, a white Mercedes Benz KCX 959 B class E-250 was being driven on Mombasa Road in one of those “where is the minister” moments,” wrote the CS on his verified X account while signaling an intention to take a stern action.
“We are concerned and a responsible citizen has alerted us. We shall do what we must.”

The incident caught the attention of a worried road user whose car was trailing the Mercedes from behind.

The concerned passenger can be heard warning the two men who burst into laughter in return.

While several Kenyans on X welcomed Murkomen’s new name-and-shame strategy in dealing with such behaviour, they have also challenged him to apply the same to high-flying Kenyans who are guilty of similar tendencies.
A video of nominated senator Karen Nyamu flouting traffic rules has resurfaced and found itself at the heart of the ongoing X debate.

In the recording, Nyamu is driven on the wrong side of the lower deck of the Nairobi Expressway while seemingly in a hurry to get to the parliament building. A uniformed police officer looks on, unbothered.

CS Murkomen has been on a sharp focus as the country looks to him to tame the worrying increase in road accidents.

President William Ruto, while speaking during the launch of the national road safety action plan 2024/2028 on Thursday, April 18, gave Murkomen one year to report a reduction in accidents or court “a lot of trouble.”
