Kilifi South MP and Kilifi County Speaker Teddy Mwambire who were arrested for intending to participate in Azimio's protests are currently in a Mombasa Court.

They were arrested in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, and spent the night in police cells. They were arrested alongside Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo.

Speaking to KTN News, Chonga said that the police have been "playing back and forth" with them, claiming he is yet to know the charges to be preferred against him and the others.

It is unclear what charges the three will face.

The arrests came as part of a crackdown on opposition leaders and supporters who were planning to stage protests against the government.

The run up to the three day protests has led to security attached to Azimio leaders including Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka being withdrawn.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga and top Azimio bigwigs were missing in action on Wednesday as police battled protesters across the country.

Day one of the protests on Wednesday saw at least six people dead, with scores sustaining injuries from alleged police brutality.
