A nine year old boy has been killed in a road crash that involved multiple vehicles at the Ngata black spot, along the Nakuru -Eldoret highway on Sunday, 10 July.
Nakuru Town West Sub County Police Commander Francis Wahome confirmed the incident stating that it happened at around 10pm along the busy highway.
"We have sadly lost a nine year old. He was among passengers on board a matatu involved in the accident. The child was pronounced dead at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital," said Wahome.
The accident happened after a trailer that was heading towards Nakuru veered off the road.
"The driver of the trailer lost control and rammed into a lorry and a matatu that were heading in the opposite direction," said Wahome.
"The trailer burst into flames but occupants of all the vehicles were rescued in time. Ten of them were however injured and rushed to hospital," said Wahome.
The county fire department responded minutes later and managed to put out the fire.
The accident has rekindled calls on the government to dual this section of the highway where scores of lives have been lost in the last one year.
In December 2022, a trailer rammed into two matatus a few metres from the scene killing ten people.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a statement after the incident saying that the government would take measures to curb accidents at the scene.
