Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, wants the government to explore alternative means of raising revenue instead of imposing high taxes Kenyans.
Oketch described the Finance Bill, 2023 as a business enterprise saying it will touch on Kenyan's disposable income.
"Taxation has to have limit because you can tax people to an extent of destroying the economy and destroy their lives," he said.
Speaking on Spice FM yesterday, Oketch said the government should saturate the economy with credit instead of raising taxation.
"You must access the kind of assets that sell for a hustler to start making money so that they can be stable," he said.
The senator accused the government of concentrating on making money instead of serving the people.
He said getting into government is more lucrative than running a business.
"Everybody who goes there wants to get something to eat so that even the laws that some people pass are not looking to serve mwananchi but how they can make them rich," he said.
The senator said delay by the National Treasury to disburse money to counties has stalled development.
"The Treasury is leaning towards the executive such that the national government is more prioritized than the county government," he said.
