The World Sleep Day is a celebrated on the Friday before the Spring Equinox, which was yesterday. It is designated to raise awareness about the importance of sleep and its impact on our health and well-being.

Sleep is an essential part of our daily routine, and we spend nearly a third of our lives sleeping. However, many do not get enough quality sleep, and this can lead to several health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Smartwatches have emerged as a powerful tool to help people track and improve their sleep.

Smartwatches are equipped with various sensors and features to track our health and fitness. They come with built-in sleep-tracking capabilities. Sleep tracking on smartwatches involves measuring the duration, depth, and quality of our sleep. The data collected by smartwatches can be analysed to identify patterns and trends in our sleep habits.

Smartwatches use sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and heart rate monitors to track our sleep. The accelerometers detect movements and vibrations, which can determine whether we are asleep or awake.

The gyroscopes can detect changes in orientation, such as when we toss and turn in bed. The heart rate monitor can indicate whether we are in deep or light sleep.

Sleep enables our bodies and minds to recover, and lack of it reduces our ability to perform well and think clearly. Yet for many, achieving good sleep is a challenge.

That said, Samsung is bringing sleep to the forefront through innovative technologies like Galaxy Watch5 series. As sleep monitoring emerges as a health trend, already approximately 50 per cent of Galaxy Watch users track their sleep patterns at least once a week, with 40 per cent doing so more than three times a week.

This helps build good habits, since once you better understand your sleep patterns, it becomes easier to improve and maintain them, leading to a healthier night's sleep.

To mark World Sleep Day yesterday, March 17, as well as Sleep Awareness Week by the National Sleep Foundation, Samsung shared useful tips for a good night's sleep.

Smartwatches also come with various features to improve sleep quality. For example, they can track our daily activity levels and suggest ways to increase physical activity. They can provide reminders to go to bed at a consistent time each night and wake up at the same time each morning. This helps our bodies establish a regular sleep-wake cycle.

With a better understanding of your sleep patterns, you can set positive habits to achieve better sleep and make a positive impact on your overall wellness. Ongoing strategic partnerships with industry leaders, including the National Sleep Foundation, will continue to deliver on Samsung's holistic sleep vision, offering even more intuitive and actionable insights to help everyone achieve their wellness goals.

Getting enough quality sleep is a huge plus for our health and well-being. As we continue to prioritise our health and well-being, smartwatches can play an essential role in helping us get quality sleep.
