A teenage girl from Ndaba, Mwea has revealed how a boda boda rider drugged and raped her.
The high school student said she had gone to visit her aunty, who lives near their home.
"I knew this particular boda boda rider, he was a family friend. When he told me that he wanted to pick a friend so they could head on to Mwea once they dropped me, I didn't protest. It was 3pm. Shortly after we picked the friend up, I felt a sharp prick on my right side," the girl narrates.
"I started feeling dizzy and passed out. When I gained consciousness, I found the abusers standing beside me looking at my naked body," she says.
"We were in a dilapidated house and I couldn't remember how I got there. When I saw them standing there, I grabbed my trousers in shame so as to cover myself. Then when I felt the pain, I realised they had defiled me. They had also stolen all the money I had. Luckily, I still had my phone so called my grandmother and aunt and they rushed to where I was."
They reported the matter at the Kiamaciri police station where she was referred to Sagana Health Centre for treatment.
At the facility, she was given post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV after possible exposure.
Gender-based violence
Faraj Stina, the Administration Police commander, said there are many reports of gender-based violence in the area and some victims even go missing.
"We have had cases where young girls have disappeared without a trace to date," Ms Stina said.
Speaking during an event to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based violence at Kamiigua polytechnic grounds, the AP Commander said action will be taken against the perpetrators.
She also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor the movement of their children, especially during this long holiday.
"Gender-based violence is one of the most prevalent human rights violations that should be dealt with to stop human suffering," she said.
Nancy Muthoni, a gender-based violence coordinator in the county, said at least 10 cases are reported weekly - most being sexual abuse.
She added that disabled persons are among the survivors.
"We should protect persons with disability, they are victims of violence," she urged.
Ms Muthoni pointed to a case of a disabled girl who was abused and the abuser left her to die.
Police are still looking for the perpetrator.
