Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata (pictured) has initiated a programme to enrol more than 21,261 people in the National Health Insurance Fund.
Already, the county government has informed the public about the registration in the Sh170 million package negotiated with the health insurance provider last week.
According to the governor, the programme is intended to expand universal health coverage by targeting low-income households.
Registration will run between November 2 and 15.
While vetting of names will begin on November 21 and 23, the names of beneficiaries will be published on November 24.
The governor said the 'Kang'ata Care' programme has unique benefits because those covered will have access to dental and optical care, which are very expensive if sought privately.
"It also includes a package of Sh100,000 for the principal immediate family and Sh50,000 for in-laws," the governor said.
Kang'ata said the recipients of the package will be vetted by the county government, community health volunteers, religious leaders, and chiefs, to ensure transparency.
Meanwhile, the governor said the county has partnered with Kemsa and cleared a Sh35 million debt before purchasing drugs worth Sh29 million.
