Police in Nakuru have shot dead four people suspected to be members of Nyuki Squad that has been linked to a spate of robberies and violence in the county.

The four were gunned down at Barut area in Nakuru Town West on Friday morning, July 15.

Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said the suspects attacked officers on patrol using arrows.

“The incident occurred at 1am today (Friday). The suspects attacked our officers at Kwa Maiko Village, located a few kilometres from the scene where a criminal gang killed two residents on Wednesday, July 13,” Mwanzo told The Standard.

“Our officers were in civilian clothes, when the suspects, who were armed with arrows and machetes, attacked them. The police personnel were forced to open fire, killing four on the spot,” said Mwanzo.

The county police chief said the suspects had attempted to call for reinforcement, but were subdued by the cops on patrol.

“Some of the suspects escaped into the neighbouring maize plantation,” said Peter Mwanzo.

Crude weapons, SIM cards and mobile phones were recovered from the suspects.

“Those who escaped have gunshot wounds. I appeal to hospitals in Nakuru and neighbouring counties to report to us should any patient with an unexplained gunshot injury seek treatment at their facilities,” said the Nakuru police boss.
