President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday termed the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate as selfless and a mentor.

Speaking in Samburu County, the President dismissed those using age to campaign against Raila Odinga.

“Age is not sickness. Even the old have the skill to hold on the steering wheel correctly. I implore you, support Baba come August 9. He is the driver who will take us to our destination,” he said.

President Kenyatta said the ODM party leader and his running mate Martha Karua were the right pair to succeed him, adding that Mr Odinga was a selfless man who will hold the hands of budding leaders to make the country better.

“With Raila, you will be sure that your leaders have the right mentor. Through his cooperation with your leaders, you will have more title deeds than I have given you,” he said.

“It is only three weeks to the end of my term. I would like you to allow another driver who will carefully drive us to our destination as Kenyans.”

The President said his administration had fulfilled most of the promises he made to the area while seeking a second term.

“Today, the people of Samburu can commute to other  areas with ease on tarmacked roads. We have connected most homes to the national grid. More is coming with Raila’s leadership,” he said.

President Kenyatta said development will attract more investors to the area and help reduce poverty.

“Yamo dam is complete. We have another Sh1.3 billion for water treatment and piping works at Yamo dam. Once rains fall, water shortage will be a challenge of the past. We have set aside Sh1 billion to tarmac Posta-Maralal road,” he said.

The President added that such development could only be realised when the country was experiencing peace.
