The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has called on Kenyans to embrace peace and not allow themselves to be divided because of politics.

NCIC commissioners said that the country must remain intact even after the election.

They exuded confidence in the resolve of Kenyans to maintain peace and unity during the electioneering period.

And in an elaborate effort to champion peace across the country, the commission in collaboration with The Standard Group launched a Peace Caravan that will traverse the country to preach peace and national unity.

Both the commission and Standard Group are committed to using the initiative to champion peace and rally more Kenyans to back the component of peaceful campaigns and elections.

In a symbolic move, the partners flagged off the caravan from Kondele in Kisumu which is considered among the hotspots for political violence.

Intense efforts by various stakeholders and residents, however, are slowly changing that narrative with residents praising efforts towards peace and unity.

Speaking during the launch of the Caravan, NCIC commissioners Phillip Okundi and Sam Kona expressed optimism that more Kenyans are ready to champion peace and unity.

They described the caravan dubbed “Elections Bila Noma Peace Caravan” as a game-changing initiative that will help reach more people with messages of peace as the country heads to the polls.

Commissioner Okundi said it is important to look into the grassroots while preaching peace.

He noted that peace campaigns should also take root the same way political campaigns have ahead of the August 9 General Election.
