Kenya records 943 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 943 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 5,787 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 16.3 per cent. The Health ministry said the total confirmed positive cases are now 258,557 and cumulative tests so far conducted are more than 2.9 million.

On county distribution, Nairobi led with 585, followed by Kiambu 120, Nakuru 56, Kajiado 25, Kisumu 13, Kericho 12, Mombasa 11, Kakamega 10, Nyeri 10, Laikipia 9, Busia 9, Embu 8, Siaya 7, Machakos 7, and Kirinyaga 7, among others.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 145 patients have recovered, 111 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme, and 34 are from various health facilities.

Kenya's total recoveries now stand at 249,154 of whom 201,073 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 48,081 are from various health facilities.

Today no death has been reported, therefore, the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,350.

A total of 177 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,986 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.

Nine patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), three of them on ventilatory support while six are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 41 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 40 of them are in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

As of yesterday, more than 8.5 million vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, more than 5.1 million were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were more than 3.4 million.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.9 per cent.  The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 12.5 per cent.
