CS Kagwe: 57 per cent of Kenyans have received first Covid-19 vaccine

More than 7.8 million vaccines have so far been administered across the country, the Health ministry has said.

Of these, 4,724,235 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 3,055,726.

A statement from the Health CS, Mutahi Kagwe (pictured), said the uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.3 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 11.2 per cent. This comes as the government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

Meanwhile, 108 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 5,073. The positivity rate is now at 2.1 per cent.

According to the Health ministry statement, the cases comprise 97 Kenyans while 11 are foreigners.

The number included 57 men and 51 women, with the youngest being a three-year-old and the oldest aged 95.

Kenya’s total confirmed positive cases are now 255,652 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,868,498.   

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi was in the lead with 50 cases followed by Nyamira 18, Meru 8,

Nakuru 4, Kakamega 3, Siaya 3, West Pokot 2, Mombasa 3 and Busia 2.

Twenty-one patients have recovered from the disease with 18 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme and three from health facilities countrywide.

The total recoveries now stand at 248,473 of whom 200,501 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 47,972 are from various health facilities countrywide. 

Today there is no death reported, therefore, the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,337. 

Kagwe said 207 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 830 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.
