Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi and the India High Commissioner to Kenya Dr Virander Paul on Sunday flagged off bikers rally challenge at the Nairobi Gymkhana club.
The high octane race from Nairobi to Nakuru is meant to reaffirm the cordial relationship the two countries enjoy.
The colourful ceremony was also meant to celebrate India's 75 years of Amrit Mahotsav.
Wanyonyi and Virander affirmed that Nairobi and New Delhi will continue to work together.
Wanyonyi, who is eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2022, noted that there is a lot that the two cities can learn from each other on infrastructure and transport.
The two leaders, flagged off the India-Kenya Friendship Bikers rally which is an integral part of celebrating India's 75th year of independence.
Wanyonyi hailed the rally as one major way of advocating for safety of motorcycle riders as well as that of other road users.
He noted that organised motorbike riders are a modern way of easing traffic and should be embraced by progressive democracies.
"We have flagged off the bikers riding all the way from here to Nakuru to celebrate 75 years of India's celebration. This is a demonstration that we are advocating for safety for our riders. We are trying to see special lanes are designed for safety riding either for bicycles, motorbikes or pedestrians," Wanyonyi noted.
"This is a good gesture that the best way to beat traffic jams is through bicycles and motorcycles. Bikes ease traffic. I am happy to be part of this initiative and celebration of India's 75 years independence celebration."
