The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission IEBC has said it has a deficit of Sh4.4 billion.
The Commission's chair Wafula Chebukati told the Parliamentary Budget and Appropriation Committee that the commission will need Sh40.9 billion to conduct the 2022 general elections.
The Chair said the Commission has already been allocated Sh26.5 billion and later added Sh10 billion.

He said that the Commission received Sh1.2 billion out of the Sh4 billion meant for mass registration.
Chebukati said the Commission will only be able to conduct mass registration for 30 days until November 2 due to the budgetary deficit.
"After November 2, we don't have any other money for the mass registration exercise. This is the trouble of budget expenses.
He said the Commission needs a further Sh1.3 billion for audit of the register and other expenses.
The Chair said the Commission has pending bills of Sh.2.2 billion for the system of 2017 general election expenses.
