Legendary Safari Rally driver Patrick Njiru on Tuesday welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s announcement that World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally will be held in Kenya every year until the year 2026.

Njiru’s comment comes two days after President Uhuru said that the Government had secured the hosting rights of the elite motorsport event from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the WRC after years of intense lobbying and preparations.

'This will allow the world to feel the test of our roads. Since 90s, we had manhole roads compared to today where we have dust holes road. Naivasha has become another city where Kenyans felt the revival very refreshing,’ said Njiru.

He also asked Motor Sports Club to revive clubs to train new drivers who will attract sponsors to grow the game before next Rally.

'Our drivers were nowhere because the vehicles they used were out dated. This could have been sorted if we had clubs in place to train and check out the vehicles before the game,' he added.
