Travelling passengers to enter details in a new app that will keep track of their temperature

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Friday announced the introduction of a new mobile application that will help in tracing travelling passengers.

While giving the daily Covid-19 update, Kagwe said the application will go a long way in reducing crowding at the airport.

“To avoid crowding at airports we are introducing a mobile app to enable passengers fill in their details online,” he said.

According to Dr Koki Mutua, Director of Public Health, all passengers will be given a link by their respective airlines and once they fill in the details they will be given a QR code.

They will then present the code at the health desk at the airport where they will be screened and their temperature will be recorded.

The individuals will be required to submit daily readings of their temperature for 14 days.

On the resumption of international travel, Kagwe said many will be inconvenienced but it is for their own good.

He stressed that travel protocols will constantly change and they will be based on risk assessment.

“International travel commences tomorrow; I apologize in advance for any inconveniences that will be experienced as we begin our new normal,” he said.

CS Kagwe also thanked Muslims for adhering to the health guidelines as they marked Idd-ul-Adha.

Due to the pandemic, many had to celebrate the feast at home, unlike previous years when they would make merry with friends and family.

The country recorded 723 new positive cases taking the cumulative number to 303,959.

Unfortunately, 16 patients succumbed to the virus and Kagwe said even young people are losing their lives to Covid-19.

On a more positive note, there were 44 recoveries, taking the total number of recoveries to 8165.
