COVID-19 pandemic outbreak led to the closure of several businesses, among them court operations.
The immediate closure for courts left some lawyers stranded, not knowing what to do next. Some have reportedly been struggling to cater for their daily needs, now that their avenue is blocked.
As a result, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has set up a kitty in aid of its less fortunate members. The kitty is set to help those unable to afford food and rent.
"We are raising money, and we will be able to pay rent for those desperate and have been kicked out of their rental houses," stated LSK President Nelson Havi.
Mr. Havi noted how some law firms dismissed their associates without even paying them, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic in the nation.

As a result, the body has resolved to act fast and shield its affected lawyers from the negative impacts of the outbreak.
The needy lot has already been identified, according to lawyer Havi. Ms. Carolyne Kimende, the body's Vice-president, revealed how several members have been approaching her seeking to be assisted in meeting their basic needs.
