After the shooting, Owino, other revelers and management of the club rushed the DJ to the Nairobi hospital. He was rushed to theatre and a bullet that had been lodged in his neck was removed. Doctors say DJ Evolve is in critical condition but stable.
Babu Owino arrested
Owino was arrested at the hospital where he was waiting for the DJ to be attended to. It is not clear what prompted the shooting.
Owino is believed to be a licensed gun holder. Police who visited the scene said they neither recovered a cartridge nor the gun used in the shooting. Kilimani Sub county police boss Lucas Ogara said a team is investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
Ogara said the team will review CCTV footage at the club to establish what happened. “We will talk to all concerned before we move forward,” he said.
Several revellers who were present were questioned over the shooting.
Owino is not new to controversy
The MP is not new to controversy and was always at loggerheads with police in 2017 and part of 2018.
His social media posts, some of which are inappropriate, have also elicited mixed reactions among netizens with a majority faulting him for his rants.
Recently the MP was involved in a heated exchange with Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris after he threatened to shave Kandara MP Alice Wahome for disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On Thursday evening, the MP posted on his social media pages over the impending Raila presidency, eliciting negative reactions from a majority of his followers.
“This time round Raila will be President by ballot or bullet,” he had posted on his Twitter and Facebook account.
In early 2018, Babu was arrested by flying squad officers outside Parliament buildings for allegedly assaulting a parking attendant in Westlands.
