Three women accused of repeatedly defiling a mentally challenged minor have denied the charges before a Kisumu Court.

The women who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Patrick Olengo at Nyando law courts yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, contrary to Section 8 (1) with alternative of indecent assault contrary to Section 9 (1) of the Sexual Offenses Act.

The three were each released on Sh100,000 bond, awaiting hearing of the case that begins on March 16 next year.

However, one of the women will still spend the night in police cells after she failed to raise the required bond.

Nyakach OCPD Jonathan Koech said they were arrested for forcing the boy to engage in sex.

The boy’s mother said they learnt, in October, that the women, aged between 30 and 66, defiled her son after he did them menial jobs. “They used to lure my child to cut charcoal wood, and instead of paying him, defiled him,” she said.

His family claims they have since received death threats, which were reported.

“He is now under our care and we are ensuring he is safe as the case proceeds,” said the local Children’s Officer John Wainaina.
