A police officer manning a bank in Bondeni was yesterday robbed of his gun in a dramatic and violent struggle with an assailant.
The attacker was later captured by locals and killed under unclear circumstances.
While police allege the assailant was shot and killed in a struggle with a policeman, witnesses say he was shot with the same gun after it was recovered by residents.
"The man in civilian clothing had gotten hold of the weapon, and we became suspicious when we saw him running while carrying the gun while a police officer in uniform ran after him," said Yasir Bakari, a witness.
