A motion seeking to oust Kiambu County Youth and Sports Executive was yesterday tabled in the county assembly.

Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Margret Njeri, while giving the ouster notice, accused Karungo Thangw’a of incompetence by failing to offer leadership in the implementation of some of the budgeted programmes like Jijenge Fund, Kiambu Super Cup and driving school project.

The motion will now be discussed after seven days when the ward representatives will vote.

Mr Thangw’a is also being accused of failing to provided information as demanded by the assembly’s Committee on Youth Sports and Social Service in exercise of its oversight role.

The MCA accused the executive of presiding over procurement of financial institutions to oversee the disbursement of Jijenge Fund contrary to the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2005.

Thangw’a is also accused of gross misconduct by getting involved in politics and insubordination to the acting Governor James Nyoro.

Deputy Speaker Philip Mubea referred the motion to the House Business Committee for adoption.

In July, the Assembly’s Committee on Youth Sports and Social Services chaired by Kamburu MCA Gathuru Mburu heard the youth department used Sh1.9 million to launch Kiambu Super Cup tournament at county headquarters on April 1.

Thang’wa justified the expenditure, saying the event attracted “a lot” of attention.

The details emerged when Thang’wa and his Chief Officer Penina Kamau appeared before the committee to answer queries on the tournament.
