Why Kipchoge's Win is a great lesson for Kenya

On Saturday, 12 October, Eliud Kipchoge proved that no human is limited by running for 42km in 1:59:40.

Nobody has ever achieved that before, that is, running for a 42km race in less than 2 hours.

Kipchoge himself said that this race was not all about breaking a record; it was about making history.

And on that day, history was made by one of our own. This tells you that Kenya has talent.

We have the best humans amongst us if I'm allowed to say so.

The other day we saw Helen Obiri Rhonex Kipruto and others win medals in the Qatar World Championships of 2019.

Time and again, Kenya led by some great runners from Rift Valley has shown the world the ability of man to run.

We should celebrate them with great joy.

However, we should also learn that talent can only be seen if it is showcased to the world.

And to showcase any talent, you need a platform, an avenue, or a stage.

In this case, the organizers of the INEOS Challenge, some billionaires, and Vienna created the platform for Kipchoge to showcase his talent to the world.

Therefore, it is safe to say, Kipchoge's talent plus the platform created by INEOS Challenge organizers led to Kipchoge's victory.

Otherwise, if no organization, individual, or country sponsored/hosted the challenge, nobody would have known that there exists a human being who can run for 42km in less than 2 hours.

Ask yourself these questions. Can Kenya host such a marathon? Can we organize such a sports event? Do we have the stadiums to do that? Can corruption allow us to do that? Or do we have to wait for other countries to organize these events for us? Think about it.

But as we think about that, let us not forget what a great Saturday was. Let's celebrate Kipchoge with great joy and happiness.
