Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai (pictured) has named Gideon Munga Nyale as his Chief of Staff.
Mr Nyale is the immediate former head of Anti-Terror Police Unit. He had been briefly moved to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and named head of Planning.
Nyale will now lead Mutyambai’s agenda mainly on reforms which the National Police Service Commission has left to the IG to implement.
A number of reforms are pending which include major structural changes at various levels. The police boss also named Julius Titi as his head of legal department.

The commission is yet to meet, consider and dispense pending disciplinary issues, promotions and other issues.
The commission under chairmanship of Eliud Kinuthia has not met since they came to office in April. They have allowed Mutyambai to implement other changes that are pressing.
Among others, the commission plans to promote more than 500 police constables who are above the age of 50 in move to tackle stagnation and inequality in the service.
All constables above 50 years had been ordered to submit their details to their bosses for consideration.
A memo from police headquarters to all formations in the country said the commission is looking into cases of police constables who are 50 years and above with a view to consider them for promotion to boost their morale.
There are many constables who have worked for more than 30 years in same rank which the commission feels affects their morale.
Kinuthia said the aging officers without disciplinary cases will benefit from the promotions set to be concluded by July this year.
He added they will also move officers who have served for more than 10 years in hardship areas to other stations perceived to be better. The developments will affect officers serving in all units in NPS.
Mutyambai announced all Officers Commanding Station (OCS) will now be referred as Ward Police Commanders in changes to be announced soon.
He said he intends to appoint the new commanders soon and the officers will be drawn from all units of the police.
