Karim Kanji, 21, from Maseno University has developed an application that helps students in driving tests.

The third-year-student says the mobile application dubbed ‘Drive in Theory’ is designed to ensure that students prepare well for their exams comfortably thanks to questions at the end of the notes.

“I realised that most students fail their driving tests and was motivated to come up with a solution for to aid their training. Through this application, students undertaking driving lessons can read, memorise and understand the road signs more efficiently. The notes are easy to understand and can be read through at their convenient time and places,” Kanji, an Information Science student told Hashtag.  He says the application will also act as a reminder to those who have already passed the test.

“Despite the fact that this application will be of much importance to the students, those that have already passed the test can use it to jog their memories and even learn things they might have missed in class,” he explains.

Despite his demanding school schedule and venture into mobile application creation, Karim also develops websites. “I have to balance in between my lectures and work. That, of course, calls for better use of my time. I work at night and early mornings before spending the rest of my day attending lectures and doing assignments,” he says.

Kanji says his love for inventing applications was fostered after he could no longer contain his curiosity about how digital gadgets operated. “My passion for computers and how fascinating it was to see websites which were running and working well as well as applications on phones working grew my interest,” he recalls.

After studies, Kanji intends to start a company where he will majorly deal with websites and software. Through this, he says, many of his kind who are passionate about inventing will get an opportunity to offer more solutions to the problems facing Kenyans.

“I intend to start a company which will train passionate people on how to come up with software solutions as well as give room to develop and expand their skills on web development to counter various issues facing our society,” he says.
