Security personnel attached to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had a hard time keeping his supporters at bay as he drove through Nairobi in a convertible Mercedes Benz.
Live broadcast posted to Governor Sonko’s Facebook page showed security holding back hawkers along Mombasa and crowds in Kangemi as people tried to get close to the governor.
In a few instances, melees ensued as Sonko’s security detail worked to clear his path which occasionally got blocked by supporters.
Sonko led a clean-up exercise of the county which he had announced earlier in the week. The exercise involves rehabilitation and beautification of areas within the city that previously served as dumping grounds.
“To promote good environmental practices, all recovered illegal dumpsites are being converted into either recreational grounds or beautification islands across the City,” Sonko posted on his Facebook page.
