Ex-President Mwai Kibaki casts ballot late over missing details

Former President Mwai Kibaki was among the last people to vote as polling came to a close yesterday.

Mr Kibaki cast his vote at Munaini Primary School in Othaya, Nyeri County, at exactly 5.45pm. The presiding officer declined to comment on why the former President voted past the stipulated deadline.

The former President was to cast his ballot at around 10.30am, according to his spokesman Ngari Gituku.

There were claims that his name could not be traced in the records at the polling centre, despite him voting there in the 2013 elections.

The former President was among people whose national identity card numbers were allegedly used to register other people. The former Head of State has a very unique ID number—2 or 00000002, said to have been used to register eight different people.

Some of Kibaki's personnel arrived at the polling station at 7am only to find his name missing from the list. They later came back with his ID and 2007 and 2013 voters card.

His daughter Judy, who voted in the same station at midday, had assured journalists that her father would cast his vote.
